Let Not Your Body Idle
As children we must have heard of ‘the idle mind is a devil’s workshop’ far too often. Parents never look upon too kindly on kids who waste their time and lie around doing nothing. Well, idling now seems to have extended its deadly tentacles across the body as well, going far beyond just the traditional mind. We are now hearing about how sitting idle or leading an extremely sedentary lifestyle can cut down the years in your life. So if most of your day is spent in front of the television watching those “Sell gold Jewellery"ads and other rubbish, the damage caused by your TV viewing is not limited to just your eyesight, your IQ, or your marriage. Sitting around all day doing nothing is believed to be the latest entrant in the list of things that can cause an early death. It is believed that women are the more susceptible lot falling prey to this phenomenon far more easily than those ruled by the Y chromosome.
It is not just the sitting part that is believed to be the causative factor. Just sitting around is usually paired up with binging, lack of exercise and other socio-economic factors to a certain extent. All these put together form a lethal mix that eventually seeps the life out of your body, leaving it with little choice but to give up on life much before it was bound to happen. Physical activity has always been associated with good health. A few hours of moderate exercise is believed to good enough to keep your body in working condition, thereby letting it live its life the way it was destined to. The human body is like a machine and needs to be maintained in order to function well. Let either slip into disuse and you are very likely to end up with a shortened life span.
