I have been browsing the Internet recently looking for some information on my research into people’s recycling habits and attitudes and I bumped into this blog post. The author is talking about how we may change the world’s energy conservation habits by teaching our children the basics of it when they are young. This post really does make sense as things instilled into us when we are young stay with us for life. By teaching our kids environmentally friendly ways of living, we will ensure that the society in the future is naturally more conscientious about their environment without having to force themselves to change their behaviours or continuously be aware about choosing the environmentally friendly options instead of what they would normally go for. Also this change in behaviour will not just be in the future, but it will start right now as you can’t teach your kids with words only, you have to do it by example, so parents will have to behave in more environmentally friendly way themselves. During my research I found that most people fail to recycle because they don’t necessarily believe in global warming and the benefits of recycling enough to justify the effort of changing their behaviour. This issue will be obsolete if people are taught environmentally friendly behaviours in childhood and if people see them as the norm. This way no matter whether they believe in helping change the environment for the better or not, they will be doing their bit. I hope more people will realise that and will help create a more environmentally conscientious society of the future. In the end, even if global warming is not real, won’t it be nice to give something back to our planet?
